Leap Frog CVC Segment and Spell

Another beautiful day!

Students are ready for various centers and sometimes it could be exhausting thinking of activities matching standards, differentiated and at the same time engaging.
Students are the judges and they decide if an activity you have been working hours worth the time and effort.
Another fantastic and fun addition to the short -at CVC word bundle is Leap Frog Activity! Which I believe students will love to play, because this activity will take their segmenting and blending to the next level.

Instructions to this activity are really simple!

Cut out the Frog and laminate it for durability.
Attach the frog on the wooden stick or a spoon.
Use the frog for hopping from green lily pad onto yellow and from yellow onto red lily pad.

Students segment together with every hop of the frog.

Slide the frog through the arrow to blend CVC word. As the frog slides students read for fluency CVC words as many times as necessary.
You can use two frogs for partners and groups to take turns to encourage parter work.

To enrich the interaction and learning skills I have also added the recording sheet. Students can write  CVC words they have segmented and blended inside these beautiful lily pads.

CVC -at Centers and Activities!

This week I have been rigorously working on my new obsession - FROGS!
For some reason this idea seemed to me very interactive and engaging for students. Taking into consideration the fact that the clip art I  have worked on is cute <3.

I have created a set of activities in one bundle and one of my favorites is Spin & Cover CVC words and Spin & Cover CVC pictures. Each activity is sold separately or as a part of my CVC -at Bundle.

Spin & Cover CVC words - for this activity you will need a spinner, you can buy one or create one of your own using pins and paperclips. I prefer partners to work along together. Student A spins the spinner and reads the word. Student B covers the picture and vice-versa. This method trains students take turns and work cooperatively. For this activity you can use props like small erasers, stones and diamonds for covering the pictures. You could use two separate colors for each student to see the level of their engagement.
Another way to have the continuous formative assessment in place I have added the recording sheet. Provide students with two different colored markers, so you will be able to see based on the recorded answers the level of engagement and writing.

I have added lily pads with a small touch of lily flowers and rectangles inside for students records.
You will find alternatives to the activity. I have created the spinner frog on a separate sheet and the pictures framed in the other to give a bigger picture to the students.

Another beautiful way to deliver the center is by letting the prop frogs hop in lily pads!
Therefore, I have added some CVC words on lily pads. Students spin the frog with pictures, name the picture and cover the word necessary.

Fishing for CVC words

This has been fabulous Summer start! Although Summer is flying by! I have been super busy working rigorously on my TpT products and clipart.
One of my favorite resources is Fish for Frog CVC words!
I was defined to create this resource and was inspired by a simple fishing game bought in $store here in Dubai, just for 20AED! Frog Jenga can be bough at Aliexpress as well.
We have used paper tape to stick on the frogs for writing various text on it. Initially we have written some letters for revising phonics.
My little daughter enjoyed fishing for the sounds! We simply put the frogs into big white bowl and the surrounded with a swim ring to match the theme.
We have incorporated fishing with writing and modeling with play dough. Every time she fished for the sounds she had to identify the letter and the sound, write it down and model it with play dough on the white board we have placed down.
Revision of the sounds helps children increase fluency every time. Afterwards, we have picked up the frogs sounds to build our short -a CVC words.
Inspired with this simple and very productive hands on activity I have created Fish for Frog Activity for you!
Now, to use this product you are going to need a fishing rod. You could easily create your own by using a hot glue and attaching one side of the string on a spoon or a piece of wood and the other on a magnet.
The frogs have the cvc words on their bodies.

Then, there are the flashcards. Now, there come with just the image.

First of all, you would want to cut out the frogs and the picture cards, laminate for longer lasting and repetitive usage.
If you have the magnetic rod, simply clip pins to the frogs and go on!

Now with the flashcards, you could place them in a Mystery Box where students have to pick up the picture cards randomly and read to their partners. The idea is that students will attempt locate the matching CVC words fish and pick it up with their fishing rod.
Every teacher tailoring the activity would want to have an evidence of the work being done correctly and with understanding of the steps being taken. Teacher wishes to see her students blend, segment, read, recognize and on top of all write the CVC words. Therefore, I have added a recording sheet which shows the evidence of the work being done by the students in the process of the activity.
